Train for a Career in Healthcare at Ohio Business College

Looking for a new direction in your professional life?  At Ohio Business College, experienced instructors are dedicated to providing students with the best and most up-to-date education possible, with the goal of helping their students start an exciting new career.  While ideally everyone would study what they love, it is also important to know where jobs are expected to be most readily available in the future.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects employment of medical office specialists to grow by 34 percent through 2018, while employment for medical administrative assistants is expected to grow by 35 percent between 2006 and 2016.  OBC’s Medical Administrative Assistant and Medical Office Specialist programs are two avenues to gain the education necessary for a career in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or a similar setting.

The Medical Administrative Assistant program, offered at the Columbus, Sandusky, and Sheffield Village campuses, is a fantastic way to gain the knowledge and experience necessary for a career in a medical setting.  Students in this 2-year associate’s degree program will acquire a variety of skills for their future career, including medical transcription, office procedures, and coding.  Medical administrative assistants can be vital parts of a smoothly operating medical office, helping to efficiently and effectively complete a variety of tasks.  Some examples of these responsibilities can include greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, updating and organizing medical records, billing, and more.

For a shorter term program, students may be interested in OBC’s Medical Office Specialist diploma program.  This program is offered in Sandusky and Sheffield Village, and can take less than a year to complete, meaning that students could potentially be starting an exciting new career in mere months!    Much like medical administrative assistants, medical office specialists work in offices and hospitals to ensure a smoothly run operation for patients and employees alike.  The coursework in this program will give students a working knowledge of medical terminology, medical office procedures, and medical management, as well as a background in computers, organization, and communication.  Medical office specialists handle many day-to-day tasks in a medical office and serve as a liaison between doctors and their patients.

Whether you are looking for a path to a new career or simply need to brush up on some medical terminology and codes, Ohio Business College is here to help, so contact OBC today!  Ohio Business College has been educating Ohioans since 1903 and offers associate degrees and diploma programs that will give students a head start filling the jobs of tomorrow.
